Gender reveal cake

By bmichellebakeshop

Out of all the celebrations I make cakes for, gender reveals have to be one of the most exciting! A new baby is always a happy event, and knowing the gender of the baby before the family makes me want to burst. I am always afraid that I will give the big secret away at the cake delivery or discussions about cake decorations (of course, I never do!). ;)
Check out this gender reveal cake made for a sweet momma and her little family. They have a young daughter – and now a baby boy on the way!!
This cake was vanilla bean (dyed light blue) with vanilla buttercream frosting and raspberry filling – decorated with pink and blue fondant baby booties, fondant dots, and a fondant ribbon.

Tiramisu cake

By bmichellebakeshop

Baby, it’s cold outside! I hope you all are using today’s New England snowstorm as a reason to stay indoors and spend time with loved ones. I am excited to show off a new flavor now on the menu – tiramisu cake! This cake was made as a special request, but I think it’s so lovely that it should be available to all! Pricing info here.
A layered yellow cake is soaked with sweet espresso, filled and frosted with whipped mascarpone cheese frosting, and topped with a dusting of cocoa, dollops of whipped cream and chocolate hearts. Also available as cupcakes, if you please. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, right around the corner! Yummm…

Rustic naked berry cake

By bmichellebakeshop

Hello, 2017! I hope you all had a good holiday season, and are feeling mobilized for this fresh, new year. Let’s hope there is more celebrate in 2017 than the year-who-must-not-be-named…
The start of the new year has reminded me I have some blogging to do! Let’s start with this sweet, lovely naked wedding cake, made last fall for the wedding of my equally sweet and lovely little sis to her college sweetheart.

Rustic naked berry cake

This naked vanilla wedding cake with summer berries was perfect in the farm setting and historic barn wedding reception venue. They even cut and finished a huge tree stump for a rustic wedding cake stand. How cool is that?!

I was thrilled to be a part of my little sister’s wedding, and even more thrilled to welcome a new brother to the family! Congratulations to the sweet couple – this is just the beginning!

Arabian pillow cake

By bmichellebakeshop

The cake I’m sharing with you all today definitely pushed the limits of my comfort zone – but a lesson learned here was that being challenged creatively is a good thing!
I actually declined this cake request at first, but this gal was especially persistent (also, it helped that she was super sweet and excited about my cakes). ;) And I am so glad that she won me over, because it was so much FUN creating this cake!
An Aladdin/Arabian-themed two-tier pillow cake (top tier carrot cake, bottom tier piña colada cake), made for a sweet little girl’s 5th birthday party. The family was insistent that they did not want the cake covered with fondant, so both cakes were filled with cream cheese frosting, covered with buttercream, and decorated with edible gold fondant decorations.

I was super impressed with the party decorations – check out the backdrop the family set up for the cake! WOWZA! My inner child was super jealous. :)

But seriously, it was so heartwarming to see how much love, work & effort the family put into this event – all for friends and family to come together and celebrate a birthday. It will certainly be a sweet memory for the birthday girl, and I am so happy I got to be a part of making her day extra special. <3 <3

Turquoise and gold tiered cake

By bmichellebakeshop

One word: GLAM. This turquoise and gold tiered cake made for one lucky gal’s 25th birthday celebration is by far the most glamorous cake I have ever made! Check. it. out.:

Turquoise and gold tiered cake

The top tier (red velvet with cream cheese buttercream filling) was frosted with smooth, white vanilla buttercream; the middle tier (6-layer chocolate cake filled with alternating layers of dark chocolate mousse & dark chocolate ganache) was covered with pure 24 carat edible gold; and the bottom layer (yellow butter cake filled with vanilla buttercream) was frosted with an turquoise-watercolor effect vanilla buttercream and specks of gold. Finally, the cake was tied together with a turquoise & white sugar peony with gold-tipped petals. Ooo-la-la-la:

We used the DeiAurum brand of pure 24K gold, made here in the U.S. of A., and I was super-impressed with the quality. The gold was so fun and weirdly addictive to apply – all my future cakes may be “accidentally” covered with gold. So pretty. And shiny. And gold. ;)

Hope you all have a great weekend! I am so excited – I have something big cookin’ this weekend. And it has to with my little sister. And her wedding. This weekend. Eeeeeeep!!!
Stay tuned…

Baptism cake and cupcakes

By bmichellebakeshop

I am so excited to show you all what I worked on last weekend!: a two-tier cake for a baby boy’s baptism celebration, as well as 2 dozen cupcakes. There is a lot of “kitschy” out there for all cakes related to babies and children, so I was happy to design something that was tasteful, clean, and beautiful. :)
The top tier of this all-yellow butter cake was frosted simply with white vanilla buttercream and adorned with a white fondant plaque with the baby boy’s name in blue letters. The bottom tier, frosted with baby blue-tinted vanilla buttercream, was decorated with a white swiss dot pattern. Both tiers and the cake board were tied together with a shimmery gold ribbon + bow, and the boy’s baptism date added to the frosted cake board. Now, how pretty is that?!

The cupcakes were frosted with our yummy all-butter swiss buttercream, and topped with white & baby blue fondant toppers: crosses, X’s for the baby’s first name, and baby feet! The cupcakes tied in nicely with the cake, and were absolutely adorable. Best part – the fondant was 100% homemade with all-natural ingredients, and are easy to pick off for those who are not fondant-inclined (such as myself)!

Pulling this all together is hard work, but the end result always makes me want to do a happy dance.
I hope you all are having a great week!

Ivory buttercream wedding cake

By bmichellebakeshop

Can I just say, I LOVE clients that give me the license to create something unique and special for their wedding cake design. Decorating a wedding cake can be a very organic and fluid process, so having the room for creative flexibility is always appreciated! ;)
For this wedding cake, the bride simply wanted an ivory wedding cake with sugar flowers. Based on her inspiration photos, I created this ivory buttercream wedding cake, decorated with white pearl details and adorned with white sugar roses & daisies. Lovely!!

Sprinkles wedding cake

By bmichellebakeshop

I am in love with this new cake design created by yours truly! It is a simple white tiered cake, adorned with a ruffly white petal flower, and dusted at the base of each tier with rainbow sprinkles for a fun pop of color! The center of the flower is coated with sprinkles to tie into the rest of the cake.

Now, how FUN is that?!

We are definitely getting to the point where I can churn out these sugar flowers with ease! My downtime is usually sucked up into youtube-ing new techniques to create different types of sugar flowers, but I aim for my cakes to stay true to the philosophy that beautiful cakes look like cake! Good for the bakers who can create crazy complex cake designs, but I am happy in my niche of clean, organic, beautifully simple cakes. ;)

Sunflower wedding cake

By bmichellebakeshop

Hello friends!
Late summer is upon us, which means sunflowers are in season! I absolutely adore late summer weddings with sunflower bouquets, decorations, etc. It is so tasteful to use what is in season, and sunflowers are warm and cheering – perfect for a down-to-earth couple going for a rustic wedding vibe. Seeing sunflowers mixed with navy or wine wedding colors literally makes me want to do a happy dance.
Check out this sunflower wedding cake design I created over the weekend. A simple but elegant white cake design lets the sunflowers shine. Stunning!
